The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 9

Hey There,

It’s Day 9 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Cartoon. I almost feel like I could have named this category Lichtenstein. I absolutely love his art and I based my look today on Liehtenstein’s Pop Art Collection. This involves bold colours, flawless skin and a serious of graphic lines and design on the face. As I look at the photos of the looks I see slight faults but considering it’s late in the evening and I’m a tired Marian, I’m still happy how it turned out. I found once I had done the graphic line work on the face, I felt there was something missing so I added a beauty spot and some tears. That, I feel, really completed the look. What do you think? Do you enjoy this type of modern art?

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 8

Hey There,

It’s Day 8 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Raver. Today’s look is something I just decided on last minute. I am tired today and I’ll admit the daily bloggingΒ is tiring. Never the less I was happy with what I came up with in the end. I went for a mishmash of bright colours on the eyes, rather sloppily blended for a more authentic look. Ravers aren’t always known for their perfectly blended eyeshadows. I added pink brows, a well known trend of the raver girl, a bindi and some metallic gold feather transfers. I kept the skin to a minimum only using some foundation, concealer, blush and a little powder down the T-Zone and under the eyes. Despite the shiny cheeks I’m bearing in this picture, I’m not wearing highlighter. The blush I used was quite shimmery. Then to finish the look I added a bright purple lipstick. I have never being to a rave but I don’t think I’d look out of place if I showed up rocking this look and some pigtails. What do you reckon?

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 7

Hey There,

It’s Day 7 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is 10 Minute Look. This look took me exactly, to the seconds, 10 minutes to do. This is a category I am very confident in because I am a person who loves my sleep and will sacrifice makeup application time to get extra minutes in bed. The most important thing about getting ready in 10 minutes is to stick to tried, tested and loved products. That way, less chance of anything going wrong and costing you precious minutes. I use multi use products a lot for getting ready quick. That’s why I used a two in one brow pencil and highlighter. Also it’s chunky so application is faster. It’s also why I used a cheek palette with three products in one. It’s much quicker than searching around for extra products. I often have to get ready for work quick, so as a makeup artist, it’s important to still look put together and flawless, while still making some impact with your makeup. In order to look like a professional makeup artist, I opt for two things, a soft smokey eye and bright lips. They are two things that are easy and quick to do but still make it look like you put some effort in. I use one shade for the soft smokey end and one brush for application and blending. I like to use shades that have a slight two tone appearance to them so when blended out it can look like more than one colour and again, seem like it took longer to do than it actually did. Good colours for a look like this include Mac Satin Taupe, Club or Woodwinked. Then I choose a bright lip, today I opted for a bold red and I love it. A bright lip for everyone might not be the easiest thing to do but with a quick outline with a liner and fill in with the lippie, it takes me about 2 minutes. The only other thing I did was use a kabuki blending brush to apply my foundation. It’s not as seamless as a Beauty Blender but it works and it’s much much quicker.

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 6

Hey There,

It’s Day 6 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Pretty in Pink. So here’s one thing you need to know about me for this look. I am obsessed with pink lipstick! It’s my favourite colour of lippie and I’ve about 20 shades of pink to choose from. I narrowed it down to one of my two favourites and finally landed on the Lancome lipstick. It was a total last minute slap decision to buy this lipstick and I decided to get it on the basis of ‘treat yo’self’. I combined this lipstick with a pigmented lip liner and gloss. The eyes I went classic with winged liner and sharp brows. I also put on a few individual lashes to give the eyes a little extra flare. My face was starting to look a bit pale at this stage with all those bright pinks to compete with. I decided to go for light contour, a light pink blush and a gorgeous duochrome pink/purple highlighter to add some shape, dimension and colour to my face.

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 5

Hey There,

It’s Day 5 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Retro-Futuristic. First of all, what is retro futurism? Well, basically, it’s what people imagined the future would be like back in the 70’s and 80’s. A few good examples of this can be seen mainly in films like Tron, Blade Runner and Logan’s Run. I wasn’t sure what I would be doing for this one so I just sat down and thought of some colours from the 70’s.I don’t have much details on this look just because I went into it with no plan. Somehow, I came up with this look and I absolutely love it!

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 4

Hey There,

It’s Day 4 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Ice Ice Baby. So this is the type of category I feel like going a tiny bit artsy for. In order to give that iced up look, I mixed some white foundation in with my regular full coverage foundation. I wanted it to look like I had physical ice on my face so, first, I covered my brows partially with a white cream shadow and applied glue on top of this. In order to get a textured look of ice, I used a combination of sugar and rock salt on top of the glue. I also applied a generous dusting of white/blue duochrome glitter on top of that. You can see the same glitter on the tops of my cheekbones, over a cream highlight. On my eyes and lips, I used a combo of frosty blues and whites, for that icy look. Then, to really sell the ‘frozen’ look, I added white face paint to my hair and a coat of white cream shadow on my lashes. Finally, because I felt like the look was missing something I added some cute white freckles. That’s it! Simple, right? Ah not so much. This look took me a lot longer to do than I’d like to admit, although a lot of that was due to the terrible white eyeliner I had- Stargazer Cake Liner- It’s going into the bin. Can anybody recommend a cracking white liquid liner or cream liner?

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 3

Hey There,

It’s Day 3 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Brow Power. I don’t know why but for this look I felt like flawless skin, minimal eye makeup and matte nude lips was the way to go. I wanted to make the brows the focus of the look. I used a combination of a cream, powder and gel to do the brows to get that also “perfect Instagram brows” look. But I don’t go for perfect either so I used the gel to brush my brow hairs up slightly, just so they weren’t 100% right. That’s not particularly a look I crave. I like things a bit messy but that’s just a personal thing. What’s your idea of Brow Power?

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 2

Hey There,

It’s Day 2 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is 80’s. I was super excited for this category because it was something I actually did a bit of research for. I read a few articles and tried to find advertisements and pop stars from the era. A few things popped up so that’s what I used to put together today’s look.

First of all the skin was usually glowy, almost shiny from no powder and using a light foundation or BB. The 80’s did like concealer though so feel free to make up a little coverage with that. I used a primer for filling in pores and evening texture and then a glowy primer all over. I followed this with a BB Cream and concealer to under the eyes and problem areas. I used a wet Real Techniques sponge to apply all these layers. Finally I finished the T-Zone with a small bit of powder. The rest of the skin involves a lot of blush from the temples down towards the hollows of the cheeks, usually where you would put contour. In the 80’s they favoured only blush on the cheeks but it was bright and there was plenty of it! I finished the skin with a spray or 5 of a setting spray.

The eyes in the 80’s meant bright and frosty eyeshadows in abundance. The 80’s favoured colours like sky blue, fuchsia pinks, bright oranges and greens. So I went with a messy combination of all those colours. I didn’t overblend or worry too hard about precision of placement of the eyeshadows. Eyeliner was worn aplenty in colours like black, blue and green. I used a green on my waterline. Then just a coat or two of mascara. Feel free to add lashes but I didn’t. I left my brows completely bare, as was the trend of the 80’s.

In the 80’s lips were bright and generally… eugh I shake at this… frosty. Believe it or not, I found two (TWO!!) frosty lipsticks in my collection. Both were PR samples because I would never buy one for myself. But actually it turned out being slightly more wearable than I would have ever thought. Still frosty though. I piled on the lip gloss, as was the trend for the era.

And that’s it. It’s actually a pretty simple and quick look to do. I think it took about 20 minutes or so, max. It’s completely not wearable but it’s fun and that’s good enough for me today!

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge:Day 1

Hey There,

It’s Day 1 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is Rock Chick. This was an easy category for me because, well, it’s kind of my gig. I love rock and metal. I love the dark messy makeup that goes along with the attitude and music. I see the classic rock chick music as a big, messy smokey eye with pale skin and nude lips. So that’s what I did! I opted for a dark navy smokey eye with no blush/bronzer and a little contour. I was originally going to do a black smokey eye but i feel that’s a little obvious. I also didn’t overblend, to leave the messy look to the eyes. Think Courtney Love and Hole. List of products below. And don’t forget if you’re taking part in the challenge to tweet with the hashtag: #TheLLN30DayMakeupChallenge!

The Lipstick Loving Nurse 30 Day Makeup Challenge

Hey There,

So I kind of had to abandon the blog there for a while due to illness. My fibromyalgia is playing up big time since the cold Winter kicked in. That plus my crash injuries not getting better and you have a sore and feeling sorry for herself Marian. I haven’t felt well enough to post or blog to be honest. But I need a kick! I currently feel dull, uncreative and stuck in a makeup rut. Hence why I decided to create this 30 day Makeup Challenge. This will force be to think a bit more and try more makeup styles, something I always find fun. The main reason for the challenge though is boredom. I am bored of the same styles of makeup turning up in all my social media. I mean, I love a glittery cut crease along with the best of them but I swear I got to a point where if I saw another one online, I was going to cry! Cut creases, deep contour, perfectly blended out eyeshadow, overdrawn lips, over the top highlight and concealer brows are all trends I like but seriously, we need a change!! This is in no way trying to knock anyone who rocks those looks by the way. I believe makeup is totally subjective and you should wear whatever you like. I just need a change for a while.
