Hey There,
Itβs Day 2 of my 30 Day Makeup Challenge and the category is 80’s. I was super excited for this category because it was something I actually did a bit of research for. I read a few articles and tried to find advertisements and pop stars from the era. A few things popped up so that’s what I used to put together today’s look.
First of all the skin was usually glowy, almost shiny from no powder and using a light foundation or BB. The 80’s did like concealer though so feel free to make up a little coverage with that. I used a primer for filling in pores and evening texture and then a glowy primer all over. I followed this with a BB Cream and concealer to under the eyes and problem areas. I used a wet Real Techniques sponge to apply all these layers. Finally I finished the T-Zone with a small bit of powder. The rest of the skin involves a lot of blush from the temples down towards the hollows of the cheeks, usually where you would put contour. In the 80’s they favoured only blush on the cheeks but it was bright and there was plenty of it! I finished the skin with a spray or 5 of a setting spray.
The eyes in the 80’s meant bright and frosty eyeshadows in abundance. The 80’s favoured colours like sky blue, fuchsia pinks, bright oranges and greens. So I went with a messy combination of all those colours. I didn’t overblend or worry too hard about precision of placement of the eyeshadows. Eyeliner was worn aplenty in colours like black, blue and green. I used a green on my waterline. Then just a coat or two of mascara. Feel free to add lashes but I didn’t. I left my brows completely bare, as was the trend of the 80’s.
In the 80’s lips were bright and generally… eugh I shake at this… frosty. Believe it or not, I found two (TWO!!) frosty lipsticks in my collection. Both were PR samples because I would never buy one for myself. But actually it turned out being slightly more wearable than I would have ever thought. Still frosty though. I piled on the lip gloss, as was the trend for the era.
And that’s it. It’s actually a pretty simple and quick look to do. I think it took about 20 minutes or so, max. It’s completely not wearable but it’s fun and that’s good enough for me today!
